Philanthropic Partnerships (PPG)
Philanthropic Partnerships is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and foundation prospects and donors.
The Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships position is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of 50-60 prospects with the capacity for six and seven figure gifts. The goal is to maximize and leverage Pew’s philanthropic potential in order to advance the organization’s most critical projects.
We are seeking a donor-focused professional with fundraising experience and excellent written and verbal communications skills. The ideal candidate will be able to build successful working relationships with Pew’s own program experts and a variety of foundation donors and prospects.
The position is located in Pew’s Washington, DC office and reports to the director, institutional giving.
• Proactively manage a portfolio of 50-60 prospects by developing and executing strategies across Pew’s programs, leading to the solicitation of significant gifts in the six and seven figure range.
• Identify and cultivate new relationships to grow the prospect portfolio and bring new gift solicitation plans into the pipeline for Pew.
• Guided by the scope of prospects’ interests, collaborate across the full organization to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of prospects.
• Provide expertise and strategic counsel regarding new development opportunities for evolving programs, as needed.
• Lead the development of strategic plans, letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets, gift agreements, and reports and updates to cultivate, secure, and steward contributions.
• Draft, edit, and manage through the review process timely and accurate personalized letters recognizing donors’ gifts, pledges, and pledge payments.
• Actively participate in the process of reporting on progress to senior PPG staff, who will in turn report to the Pew board and executive office. This includes providing information and data for quarterly presentations, written overviews and monthly narrative updates, and participating in the annual planning process.
• Participate fully in Pew’s Salesforce constituent relationship management and PeopleSoft financial systems.
• A Bachelor’s degree is required, and 8 years of external fundraising experience in higher education, research, health, science, media, culture, or advocacy organizations, with a demonstrated track record of developing and advancing significant philanthropic investments through sophisticated relationship building.
• Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies employing a moves management approach leading to successful closure of institutional gifts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate Pew’s mission and interests for donors and prospects with clarity, crispness, and effectiveness and to develop complex presentation materials, proposals, budgets, and other collateral that support this effort.
• A donor-focused demeanor at all times. Able to build rapport and provide assistance to high-profile external constituents as well as internal staff.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, challenge conventional norms and try new approaches.

• Discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to learn systems/technology used at Pew, including Adobe, Salesforce, and PeopleSoft.
This position is expected to include approximately 10% travel to meet with donors and attend conferences. Most travel will be US domestic with some international trips.
