    Philanthropic Partnerships (PPG)
    Philanthropic Partnerships is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and foundation prospects and donors to raise funds in support of Pew’s mission.


    Position Overview
    We are seeking a dynamic, creative, entrepreneurial fundraiser with excellent written and verbal communications skills. The senior associate is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of at least 15 institutional prospects with capacity for five and six figure gifts.

     

    The senior associate’s primary responsibility is to identify and qualify prospects, help build a pipeline of potential gifts, and manage proposals, gift acknowledgement, and grant reporting processes.

     

    The position is located in Pew’s Washington, DC office and reports to the director, institutional giving.

    Responsibilities

    • Proactively manage a portfolio of 15 or more foundation prospects by developing and executing strategies across Pew’s program areas in close coordination with the staff and others, leading to the successful solicitation of gifts under $500,000.
    • Play a measurable role in the development of letters of inquiry, strategic plans, grant proposals and budgets, grant agreements, and assist in the review and submission process. In addition, assist in drafting other materials needed to deepen prospect engagement for securing gifts such as newsletters and leadership letters.
    • Coordinate with legal and finance units to facilitate and troubleshoot information needed for grant proposals and reports.
    • Provide expertise and strategic counsel regarding new development opportunities for evolving programs and liaise with existing projects on fundraising opportunities.
    • Thoroughly understand Pew and how it operates, and develop a comprehensive knowledge of its current programs, history, culture ,and base of financial support.
    • Create and use prospect research to assist in formulating prospect strategies.
    • Partner with the institutional giving team to develop and implement donor cultivation and stewardship plans, including project updates, calls, events, and travel.
    • Participate fully in Pew’s Salesforce constituent relationship management and PeopleSoft financial systems.
    • Provide support and participate in other special projects and duties, as assigned.

    Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree is required, and 4 years of external fundraising experience in higher education, research, health, science, media, culture, or advocacy organizations.
    • Excellent written (including editing and proofreading) and verbal skills, including the ability to understand and translate Pew’s mission and interests for donors and prospects with clarity, crispness, and effectiveness, and to develop complex written materials to summarize the essence of issues and the means to address them.
    • Strong relationship and partnership orientation. A team player with an institution-wide view. Respect for teamwork and appropriate communication and coordination with colleagues.
    • Maintains a donor-focused demeanor at all times. Able to build rapport and provide assistance to high-profile external constituents as well as internal staff.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to establish and implement systems and identify resources to ensure the successful completion of projects.
    • Sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
    • Ability to think proactively, take initiative, and see tasks through to completion with appropriate follow-up.
    • Flexibility to work as part of a team or independently to meet goals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven department. Self-directed to take action and resolve issues.
    • Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the use of software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to learn systems/technology used at Pew, including Adobe, Salesforce, and PeopleSoft.

    Travel
    This position is expected to include occasional domestic travel to meet with donors and attend conferences.
